Quality Assurance

Internal Quality Management at the Study Program level

The person in charge of the Academic Quality Assurance System in the Department is the Head of the Department. Internal quality management is carried out by each activity unit, coordinated by GPM (Quality Control Group) consisting of 6 lecturers assigned as Chairperson, Secretary, and Member (GPM formation decree in attachment G3). The task of GPM is to evaluate the internal quality management process including 13 points, namely:

  1. Vision, Mission, Educational Objectives.
  2. Study Program Curriculum
  3. HR
  4. Students
  5. Learning Process.
  6. Infrastructure Facilities
  7. Academic Atmosphere
  8. Finance.
  9. Research and Community Service
  10. Governance
  11. Institution Management
  12. Information System
  13. Domestic and Foreign Cooperation.

At the Faculty level, a TPMF (Faculty Quality Control Team) has been formed, which to date has created an academic quality manual, an academic quality internal audit procedure manual and academic standards.

Relationship with quality assurance at the institutional level.

Based on input from stakeholders, alumni, and the existing development situation, GPM as the implementer of Department-level quality assurance can submit a Corrective Action Request (PTK) to the department. The head of the department prepares a Corrective Action Plan. GPM helps provide departmental quality assurance data and information to TPMF. Furthermore, TPMF submits PTK to the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and the Dean then compiles a Corrective Action Plan.

The Head of Study Program and the Dean provide input (findings) to BPM (Quality Assurance Agency) Diponegoro University, through the field of Quality Assurance Implementation and Development. The BPM Internal Audit Division is responsible for auditing quality assurance at the University, Institute, Faculty and department.

The impact of the quality assurance process on the experience and quality of student learning outcomes.

Evaluation of quality assurance items in the Department of Electrical Engineering is used to determine the extent to which the achievement of output and outcame against the academic standards of the department. The main indicator is the achievement of course competencies and graduate competencies each year, which is associated with the achievement of the vision, mission and educational goals.

Self-evaluation of teaching and learning methods is carried out through indicators of assignment results, exam results, activeness (motivation) and practicum. Thus it can be seen the improvement of student abilities theoretically (cognition), attitudes (affection) and practice (psychomotor). The impact of the quality assurance process appears in forms such as:

  • Increased level of student discipline in academic activities.
  • Increased level of motivation to learn, do assignments or discussions.
  • Increased conducive academic atmosphere.
  • Open access to knowledge development, through increasing the number and quality of
  • infrastructure facilities.
  • Practical experience through student involvement in research, community service from various collaborations carried out.

In general, the quality assurance process on the student learning experience has a positive effect, so that students obtain a minimum standard of learning on improving their knowledge and skills.

Quality standard methodology (Benchmarking)

In order not to be left behind with the quality expected by users, benchmarking is carried out, among others, with activities:

  • Participation in the Communication Forum between Electrical Engineering Departments in Indonesia, whose activities every year hold seminars, including instructing the electrical engineering curriculum.
  • Comparative studies to ITB, UGM, ITS, abroad to UTM, UTHM and University of Malay in Malaysia.
  • Workshops, which invite alumni, experts from private practitioners, government agencies, and other higher education.
  • Public Lectures (Stadium Generale), by inviting guest lecturers from practitioners and lecturers from other universities.
  • Further Studies (S2 / S3), lecturer staff to other universities at home and abroad. Overseas in Malaysia (UTM & Perlis), Japan (Kyusu Institute of Technology) and Saudi Arabia (King Saut University).
  • Research on the development of graduate competencies, curriculum planning and documented in scientific publications.

Institutional Development and Assessment.

To anticipate the development of technology and the era of information globalization, program development is carried out on the existing curriculum by improving and controlling quality. In order to foster and develop a quality assurance system, the department forms internal organizational units, which assist the head of the department in the development and assessment of institutional institutions. The units are responsible for (a) the academic field which includes the education sub-field, the research sub-field, the service sub-field. (b) in the field of cooperation, efforts are made to build a network of cooperation with alumni, government and private agencies, other universities that hold planning education programs, donor agencies, professional organizations, and community organizations.

In the field of administration, efforts were made to improve the quality of management in the form of system development, scheduling mechanisms, monitoring mechanisms, information systems, improving the attitudes and skills of human resources, improving budget submission plans, and reporting systems.

Continuous Internal Evaluation

For the assessment and development of institutional institutions is very clear, because the Department of Electrical Engineering has the authority to manage the internal department itself, while the Faculty is only a coordinator. This can be seen from the existence of an organizational structure consisting of the chairman and secretary as well as other units under them including administrative staff in running the wheels of the department’s internal academic activities under the coordination of the faculty.

Internal evaluations conducted by the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Faculty of Engineering which are carried out at the end of each semester show an increase in the quality of PBM in recent years, thus having a positive impact in providing an understanding of various learning systems for the staff of the Department of Electrical Engineering. As a tangible manifestation of the success of continuous internal evaluation is the success in external evaluation from BAN PT in 2003 with the result of grade A.

Utilization of Internal and External Evaluation/Accreditation Results in Program Improvement and Development.

Evaluation results are used to identify what activities need to be improved, so that lecturers and administrative staff can jointly improve service quality. PBM evaluation input from the Faculty is also used as input in revamping the department. This input from the Faculty serves to spur the department to be one of the best among other departments in the Faculty of Engineering.

Cooperation and Partnership of Related Agencies in Quality Control.

Cooperation and partnership with external parties is very important for quality control, because input from them is a very important feedback for improving the quality of education in the Department of Electrical Engineering. Partnerships are made so that the competence of graduates produced is in accordance with user needs and trends in scientific development. For quality control, cooperation is carried out mainly through :

  • Communication through the internet, both web, email and mailing list with graduate users and alumni.
  • Practical work lectures (KP), in collaboration with government and private agencies.
  • Field Work Lectures (KKL), cooperation with educational institutions and industry.
  • Co-operative or internship in industry.
  • Seminars, to increase the aspirations of students and lecturers as well as for the development of knowledge.
  • Community service.
