Initiating from the anxiety of the UNDIP Chancellor regarding his appreciation for graduates during a pandemic, then Rofiq Cahyo Prayoga (Cahyo) started the design of a robot that could represent graduates. Currently, Cahyo is pursuing a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP). Rofiq Cahyo Prayoga designed a robot that resembles a human that can capture sensors from the opposite speaker.
Cahyo explained that the robot he designed was equipped with a feature to communicate via a tablet screen embedded on the robot’s face. “The feature is designed to be like a graduation person, his hand can shake hands with the Chancellor, then one hand can receive a diploma,” he explained. In addition, he said, communication can be conducted through a video call application so that graduates who are at home can communicate in two directions with the chancellor at the time of handing over the diploma.
Cahyo’s work in the form of a graduate robot was then used for the first time in the 159th graduation ceremony of Diponegoro University which was held online considering that it was still in the atmosphere of the COVID-19 pandemic. The graduation procession can be witnessed directly by graduates and their families through the Undip TV YouTube channel. This graduation was held Monday to Thursday, 27 to 30 July 2020.
Currently, Cahyo is completing his thesis in the field of instrumentation and control engineering at the Magister Program Study of Electrical Engineering at UNDIP. He hopes that this work can motivate his colleagues and juniors to continue to work and innovate even in the time of a pandemic.
