The thesis exam in Electrical Engineering at Diponegoro University was held on May 5 2023. The test participant was Kurniawan with NIM 21060120420019, a Masters student in Electrical Engineering. The implementation of the thesis examination was attended by the supervisor namely Dr. Iwan Setiawan., ST., MT and Dr. Aris Triwiyatno., ST., MT, and the examiner namely Rinta Kridalukmana, S. Kom., MT., Ph.D, Dr. Darjat., ST., MT, and Mochammad Facta, ST., MT., Ph.D. In the thesis exam, the participants presented their thesis entitled “Optimization of the Offset Yaw Angle of Wind Turbine Fields Using Online Genetic Algorithms with a Modified Elitism Strategy”.
This thesis was created by a researcher, Kurniawan, to address a problem, namely, fluctuations in wind direction that occur in wind turbine fields cause wake interactions between turbines to have dynamic behavior, so that it is difficult to optimize the yaw offset angle for each turbine. From this study, it was found that the increase in convergence speed of the genetic algorithm with the modified elitism strategy reached 3.8 times faster than the classical elitism strategy. Results were also obtained which stated that in several wind directions (270°, 315°, and 360°), an average increase in wind turbine farm power was obtained by 10.52%. So it can be concluded that this study shows that the modification of the elitism strategy carried out can increase the convergence speed of the genetic algorithm to track the optimal yaw offset angle setpoint value adaptively in various wind directions, and the average increase in wind turbine farm power reaches 1.94% higher than the results previous research.
